When I was a kid, I used to love high school field trips. Who doesn’t? School trips were a great chance to get away for the day. It was an excellent deal. You wouldn’t have to do any work all day, and all you would usually have to do in return was to write a little report. Of course, being a geek made me enjoy them all the more. After all, the school trips would always be to interesting and educational destinations. We would get to go to science centers, to the art museum, to local landmarks, and many other places.
Of course, my favorite school field trip of all was to Arkona. It was a giant fossil Park in Canada, and every school class would get to go there in 6th grade. It was pretty amazing. There were trilobites you could grab out of the mud while you were walking by. There were fossilized animals everywhere. Not only was it educational, but it also gave us the opportunity to collect and trade interesting looking artifacts. Kids all love collecting things, and it can be a lot of fun to trade with your friends.
In high school, I liked the school trips even more. They were less frequent of course, but when we got to go they were a lot of fun. My favorite were the school musical tours. I was part of both the band and choir, so as you can imagine I got to travel quite a bit. Going to concerts at other schools was fun, but the best was when we toured Europe. We got to go all over, singing with other choirs from other countries. It was amazing to be able to share our songs with music lovers all over the world.
I’ve always thought it would be nice to see school trips more integrated into the educational curriculum. Usually, when we would take a school trip it was more of an escape than an educational opportunity. Don’t get me wrong – I learned things on the school field trips, but mostly it was just an excuse to have fun and socialize with my friends. It was never really done to illustrate something we were learning in history for example, or to explain a principle of science. I feel like, with the amount of fun we had leaving the school, they could have gotten us to do some serious work.

It seems that practically every day, there is a new fad in teaching kids to read. Fortunately, kids learn to read using a wide variety of styles, so No matter what is in fashion, most of the kids will have very little trouble. Unfortunately, No matter what teaching curriculum is used, some kids have trouble learning to read. There is no single answer on how to learn reading, but if your kid is having difficulties with it, there are many things to try. Unfortunately, there are even more things to avoid.
You see, teaching kids how to read is big business. This means that anytime someone can come up with a new program that promises to solve all of your learning to read problems, they can make a lot of money off of it. The more unscrupulous the business, the more money they stand to make off of learning to read. When I worked as a tutor, I saw this all the time. We would often lose kids to clinics that would promise to raise their reading level 3 to 5 years in six weeks! This promise was impossible, of course, but they would prey off of hopeful parents who just wanted to solve their kids reading problems and have it over with. In reality, learning to read – especially for learning disabled students – can be a long and difficult struggle. Nonetheless, it is worth sticking to it.
If your child is having a problem learning to read, it is crucial that you get him or her tutor. Above all, do not go to one of the big learning centers. The best places to learn to read are small, independent tutoring clinics. Learning to read from the big factories is almost always a mistake. They tend to teach out of a book, and are not able to tailor their programs to individual children’s learning styles. As a parent of a student having trouble learning to read, you need to understand as quickly as possible that there is no simple answer to your child’s learning problems. Only through a combination of strategies will your child successfully learn reading.
Unfortunately, a lot of parents make bad decisions at crucial stages. If your child is having trouble learning to read, the longer you wait, the worse things get. He or she will feel stupid, hopeless, and worthless. I have even seen kids give up learning to read because they have little success with the programs their parents try.

The honor system means doing the right thing ethically when it comes to various elements. The honor system is often in place at high schools and colleges when students have take home exams or proctored exams. They have the choice to do their best legitimately or to cheat on the exam. There is no way anyone would find out but they have given their honor to follow the rules.
Many colleges now allow students to engage in online classes so that they have a more flexible schedule. There is no way to monitor who is actually doing the work so an honor system is in place. Students are only cheating themselves if they don’t complete the work of the curriculum on their own. Yet some students only want the degree not the amount of work it takes to earn it.
Many businesses have an honor system in place when it comes to paying for sodas out of the break room refrigerator. Each person is to pay a set amount of money in order to take one out. Since no one is monitoring this though they may or may not be doing it. However there is an honor system that is in place that helps ensure that the program is able to continue.
Some employers don’t use a time clock to keep track of the hours employees put in. They are bound by an honor system that they are likely to follow. This means they properly log the amount of time they spend in the office, don’t take longer lunch breaks, and they don’t exaggerate the amount of time they spend for traveling or working from home.
An individual’s choice to follow an honor system is very important when it comes to the level of integrity they exhibit. It may be tempting to break the rules from time to time but most people appreciate the trust that has been placed in them. They aren’t willing to compromise it by breaking the rules.
While no one else may know what has taken place when you are bound by an honor system you do. If you are an ethical person you will do the right thing without thinking twice about it. The frustrating part is that not everyone else will do so.

It is often said that teachers are the most underappreciated asset that society has. We trust the future of world in their hands, since they are training those who will someday run it. In order to fully appreciate all that a teacher does for you and your child, you need to get a better idea for the daily duties of a teacher. More often than not, they go above and beyond what is expected of them in order to connect with the students and do their job as effectively as possible. Here are some of the things a teacher does in order to maximize his or her effectiveness.
Usually a teacher will spend hours of time off the clock in order to make the classroom a better place for all of the students. By doing research on learning methods and teaching methods alike, teachers can learn how to specifically help out students who don’t seem to be getting the content as well as the rest of the class. This information will teach the teacher in a way, and result in a teaching method that is much preferable. Teachers are never obligated to undergo this extra learning process, but many do it anyway.
Teachers also take a personal interest in their jobs, despite a pay that is lower than average. Being passionate about ones job is a trait that is not very common in this day and age, and for teachers the passion to teach is almost taken for granted. Teachers want to do the best that they can to teach children everything in the curriculum, and usually the hard efforts go unnoticed by the parents and by the administrators.
Hopefully you can see now that teachers are much underappreciated, and do a lot more work than they are given credit for. So if you have a teacher that is teaching either yourself you’re your child, you should be sure to show how much you appreciate his or her efforts. Teachers are conditioning the minds that will someday be running the world, and this fact alone is a good reason to applaud them for their line of work.

I have had the privilege of being an educator for almost thirty years. During that time I have taught elementary, high school and most recently college aged students. Each grade level has different rewards and challenges. When teaching the younger students there is the fun of having them experience wonder in learning new things. There are also behavior issues and shorter attention spans so projects need to be either very short or long term with short sessions each day. With high school students some of them have lost their enthusiasm for their education. Also there are so many social components that get in the way as well as the tough emotional roller coaster ride of adolescence. It has been very rewarding teaching the more mature student in the college setting. There are still some students that are not focused, but most of them are excited about earning their degree.
When I first began teaching at the college level I planned to give a full term assignment to write a research paper on a topic of interest. The dean of our department warned me that this would cause me many headaches. He said that even at a college level hearing that you have to write a research paper sends many students into a tail spin. I could not believe that this would cause as much turmoil as he was leading me to believe. So, being the determined person I am, I proceeded with my plans. The first day of the semester I handed out the curriculum for the course. This included the name of the text book we would be using, the dates of the tests and the expectation that everyone would write a research paper. I explained that the tests as well as the participation in classroom discussions would be two thirds of the grade and the research paper would be the other third. I handed out time lines for the paper. I wanted the topic they chose as well as a rough draft outline completed in the first two weeks and then various updates on progress throughout the semester. I was doing this so that the students would not wait until the last week of the semester and try to write a research paper. I wanted the writing and research process to get them interested about their topic area.
The dean was right about the panic that this research project created. Several of the students complained that they did not take an English course yet and several other complaints along those lines. I stuck with the curriculum and basically did not listen to the complaining. I received several excellent research papers at the end of the course. I could tell the students took pride in the work that they had completed.

There will come a time in both high school and in college when you will have to write a term paper. These quite often pop up in your curriculum because they play an important role in your education. Not only do they demonstrate what you have learned, they show that you can gather, understand, and report information in an organized and intelligent manner. No matter how much trouble you are having, or how little time you have, make sure you don’t take the easy way out and buy a term paper instead of writing one.
For many schools and colleges, this is a huge problem. Students don’t have time to do their work, so they decide to buy a term paper to turn in. Some students are too busy with extra curricular activities, while others are just plain lazy. Some students are having trouble learning, but are too scared to ask for help. So instead of writing their own term paper, they buy one, and turn it in as their own.
At many schools, students found turning in a term paper written by someone else are immediately punished. Sometimes, they get suspended. They don’t take this type of thing lightly. Teachers have new ways to find out if you are writing your own term paper, or if you have gotten it online. Don’t underestimate how smart your teacher is, because they have seen it all. Remember that after having you in their class for a long period of time, they get to know your writing. If a term paper you turn in is nothing like other things you have submitted for assignments, they are going to smell a rat.
Getting in trouble is not the only thing you have to worry about when you buy and turn in a term paper you didn’t write. You are cheating yourself out of your education. You may read it over, and remember what it says, but you are missing out on everything writing a term paper entails. Without that type of skill, you are going to be lacking when it comes time for your first job. You may say that you won’t be writing term papers for a job, so it’s not that important. Remember that the skills you need to write a term paper are skills that help you with other things in life. Without these skills, you aren’t going to be in high demand for any career.

Grammar School is a name for a school of education in Britain. In Britain, grammar school is divided into four stages. The beginning of a child’s education is called ordinary school. Next is the compulsory stage of education. Then there are two more stages called selective schools.
In the Victorian period, teachers in Britain were required to wear the gowns. Older pictures of this era show a teacher posing in front of a black board with books in one hand and a pointer in the other. She was dressed in a long, black gown, her hair put up tightly and no smile on her face.
Education levels everywhere go by different names, but they are very similar to the grammar school pattern. In the United States, we call them Primary, Elementary, and Secondary schools. Some areas count Junior High and High School together while others categorize them separately.
In many countries the primary and elementary educations comprise of the first years of structured education. This is the timeframe where basic math, the alphabet, spelling, writing ones name, and emerging reading skills take place. They build on these basic skills throughout the levels. Some areas call them grades and others simply lump it all together. Regardless of the terminology, the same pattern is prevalent.
For many countries, the starting of the secondary education grade is equivalent to 6th grade level. This is considered a very big step for these children to take. Many ceremonies take place as they advance called promotion or graduation.
Home schooling has become very popular in the United States and in other countries. There are pros and cons to this type of schooling. Parents who select this method must have their children every 2 years by the local school standards to ensure they are on track. The positive part of home schooling is the parent knows the children are doing the work. They are aware of their learning habits, so they can teach in a way that appeals to their child. They can also structure the school day to fit the parent’s schedule. With so much violence, bullying, and school shootings being reported, some parents are afraid to allow their parents to attend public school. On the other side of it, children who are home schooled don’t get the social interaction with children their own age and they miss out one many activities. They also don’t have the opportunity to compete it sports with their peers. If the parent doesn’t follow a curriculum as outlined or is not well educated themselves, the level of education the child receives may not be beneficial to survive in the real world.

I have always loved words, so naturally I have always loved word puzzle games. For the most part, I stick to crossword puzzles, but there are other ones out there that are just as fun. I started out with word searches when I was very young, but as I got older and smarter, the challenge of the crossword puzzle became more to my liking. If you like these games, you can find them both in books and online.
You can find word puzzle games almost anywhere you buy books or magazines. These are often rated easy and difficult, and what you can do might depend on how you feel that day. Some days I am so wiped out that the easy ones are too hard, and on other days I can breeze though the difficult. My brother also loves these word puzzle books, and if you are having a hard time buying for him, a stack of these is always a hit. You find them laying around his house every time you visit, and the takes them with him for long car rides. As long as you don’t get car sick, these are great road trip time wasters.
If you are looking for word puzzle games online, you can find a huge variety of different puzzles. Some are more complicated, and others are made just for action. Some are spelling games, which can double as learning tools if you want to learn new words, and others will play off the meanings and uses of words. Many involve a time limit, which makes you think on your feet. One particular game gives you letters, and you have to see how many words you can come up with from just those letters. I have greatly expanded my own vocabulary by playing these types of games.
Word puzzle games are more than just games, and you can use them to help your children learn vocabulary and spelling. You want to find the easiest word puzzle games you can find, but once they get going, you might be surprised at how much they have learned in a short time. In my experience, nothing works faster than camouflaging learning in the form of a game. Many teachers know this, and that is why they often have word puzzle games as a part of their curriculum. If you are home schooling your children, you should keep this in mind.

Running is a great way to get the cardio exercise that your body needs, but most of us really don’t enjoy running. There are a select few runners out there though who have achieved plenty in running events. They truly love being able to push their body to reach new goals. A runner can train for speed to run sprints or train for endurance to complete a marathon. Regardless of the type of training, dedicating your time and energy to being a runner is a good way to stay healthy.
Professional runners aren’t as well publicized as other athletes, but you can bet they train just as hard for their sport. The Olympic Games offer runners an opportunity to show the entire world their skills. There are also some sports channels that cover marathons and other running events.
The love of running isn’t something most of us wake up one day and decide we want to do. It is often something that a person has a passion about and is involved in from an early age. It is common for runners to be involved in the sport during their high school years.
Many people don’t realize it, but there is less competition for a runner when it comes to an athletic scholarship than other sports. Of course you are limited to the number of colleges that feature a running program and the curriculum you want to participate in.
A runner has to take very good care of their body to keep it healthy enough to continue running. This involves training daily and eating a balanced diet. It also means getting enough rest and stretching properly both before and after each work out. Many runners say that clearing their mind helps them focus on their running. Learning a variety of breathing techniques can be beneficial as well.
Some runners train on their own but many work with a team trainer. This allows them to work with someone who can identify their individual strengths and weaknesses so improvements in the right areas can be focused on. There are also various books and magazines that offer tips and techniques for improving your running skills. Being a runner takes dedication, strength, and a love for the sport.

Most children enjoy doing science experiments at home and these can inspire an interest in their science lessons at school too. A chemistry set is the most convenient way of channeling their desire to be the next Nobel Prize winner. The sets come with an instruction manual and everything needed for the home laboratory. There should be safety features too, such as a pair of safety goggles. The sets do involve the use of chemicals, so it’s important for children to be supervised by adults.
When buying a set, parents should look at the recommended age range and buy from a known brand. A chemistry set is even more useful if it ties in with the requirements of the school curriculum. Behind the color and spectacle of the box lid, lie a serious attempt to achieve an ability and knowledge of the subject. Many sets come with booklets containing helpful diagrams and information and some contain interactive DVDs, showing how to conduct experiments.
Experiments with metals, gases, crystals and foods can all be accomplished using the equipment in a common chemistry set. The usual items include pipettes, test tubes, glass and rubber tubing and some kind of heat source. There will also probably be litmis paper, a magnifying glass, thermometer and balance and weights. A chemistry set enables users to make crystals and analyze different chemical compounds. Chemicals include copper sulfate, ammonium chloride, sodium carbonate and magnesium sulfate.
There are also more specialist products on the market for children with a particular interest or who want to explore a curriculum module in more detail. Crystal making sets are great fun and the results are ideal for birthday gifts. Another set specializes in experiments with plastics and polymers. There is also a Kitchen Chemistry Set, which comprises experiments that can be easily done in the kitchen. The projects include testing for acids, salts and bases. Food coloring and cress seeds are included and there are fun instructions on how to make different meals and drinks.
These sets make great presents and children and parents can enjoy working on the experiments together. Many children who don’t enjoy science class at school come to appreciate the subject more. They can be useful for doing homework projects too and teachers may like to introduce the set into class work. They offer an interactive activity and an educational alternative to computer games. Science has never been so much fun!
