Kids homework is the subject of a lot of stress with parents, families, and teachers. It is a well known fact that not every child wants to do it. If the parents fail to teach kids the importance of homework, they may or may not take it upon themselves to do it. Basically, parental help and supervision are a really good thing.

One thing that parents can do is start a mandatory homework hour. A good time for this is after dinner. You can ask your kids what homework they have and make sure they work on it during this time. When it comes to kids homework, an hour may or may not be enough, depending on the situation. But, even if there is no homework to be done, it is a good idea to enforce the kids homework hour anyway and teach them that reviewing the material and studying are also a good idea.

Some kids need help on their homework. Family homework time is a good time for them to get extra help. They can ask other siblings or their parents or step parents. There are also a lot of resources online. You may also want to permit them to call a friend and see if the friend understands the homework. Kids homework is worthless unless they do it with understanding. The point is that kids get to learn new concepts through homework and reinforce old concepts.

It seems that kids homework starts earlier and earlier. While it used to be that only older students had homework, now it is not uncommon for younger aged children to have homework. Another good thing to teach is that it is a good idea to get as much homework done during school as possible. That way, they can spend their nights relaxing. Kids homework is only a hassle if the family treats it like one. If a child learns how to manage their homework from a young age, they will be more successful.
